“After months of grieving the loss of my two senior dogs in 2021, My husband Matt and I felt ready to welcome another senior rescue dog into our home. I began my search online and came across AZK9’s website. I searched through the adoptable dogs and frequently went back to Asia’s story and photos. I felt like we had to meet her. Matt and I decided to move forward with the process. I followed the instructions listed on the website, filled out the application, and emailed the rescue. I was so nervous!
Within about 24 hours, I received an email from Courtney stating we sound like a great match! Courtney was very prompt with communication as we figured out a meeting date and time. One evening Matt, my 10-year-old stepson Jack and myself headed over to the AZK9 rescue home. We met Asia with her favorite person- Kendall. We were introduced to Asia in a huge fenced-in yard where we got to play catch, give lots of pets and receive lots of kisses from Asia. She was such a sweet and friendly girl. We instantly fell in love with her! We were blown away by how healthy, athletic, and happy the 11-year-old girl was. She had obviously been so well cared for. Kendall helped us get to know her and answered any questions we had. We were informed of the next steps if we decided to move forward.
After following the recommended 24-hour period before deciding, I contacted Courtney to let her know we wanted to move forward! The next step was bringing Asia into our home for the home visit, followed by a 1-month trial period as a foster to adopt. Kendall arrived with Asia for the home visit, and we quickly received approval of our home ☺. Asia quickly made our couch her throne, and we were so happy to have this joyous girl with us! We were provided with all the necessary supplies for Asia (kennel, food, bed, etc.). Kendall reviewed the 1-month trial period process and rules. We signed a contract agreeing to the necessary rules to make this a safe adjustment for Asia. We also agreed that if this suddenly did not work out, we could bring Asia back to AZK9.
During our 1-month fostering of Asia, we gave Courtney and Kendall plenty of updates- lots of photos and videos! They were always available to answer any questions for us. The adjustment process for Asia was smooth. Asia came so well trained, and it was a joy to have her settle in with us. After 30 days, I reached out to Courtney to let her know we were ready to officially adopt Asia! We bonded quickly and knew we needed to give Asia her forever home.
We met with Courtney, Aaron, and Kendall at AZK9 to sign the adoption papers. These people have been family to Asia, as she had been with the rescue for years. I signed the paperwork and received Asia’s file, including her vet records and microchip information. We were overjoyed but kept the adoption a secret for a few more weeks! Courtney wanted to throw a surprise party to announce Asia’s adoption to all the volunteers who had loved Asia so much over the years. Courtney arranged for us to show up on an evening when Monica was photographing the adoptable rescues with the volunteers during a volunteer appreciation party. We arrived with Asia and surprised everyone with the news of Asia finding her forever home! Asia was thrilled seeing her friends and being the center of attention! We loved getting to more members of the AZK9 family. Monica graciously took beautiful photos of our newly “completed” family. We are so grateful for these beautiful photos and will cherish them forever.
What I love about AZK9 Rescue is how family-oriented they are. They treat each rescue dog with love and care to ensure the dog goes to the right home. Even after the adoption process, everyone at AZK9 is like family to us. We keep in touch by phone and Instagram. We were even able to board Asia at the rescue while we went out of town for a long weekend. We are forever grateful to AZK9 for bringing Asia into our lives! AZK9 is a vital rescue because it saves the senior dogs and the hard-to-adopt dogs. These dogs deserve to be given a chance, and AZK9 makes that happen. ”
